Brownfield Opportunity Area- West New Brighton Waterfront

West Brighton Community Local Development Corp., Staten Island, Richmond Terrace – Step 2
The West Brighton Community Local Development Corporation will complete a Nomination for an approximate 120-acre area characterized with potential brownfield sites located along Richmond Terrace in the West Brighton section of Staten Island. The community revitalization objectives include completing a strategic plan for the economic and environmental revitalization of the properties located in the target area utilizing the findings of their Pre-Nomination Study. Remediation of environmental concerns and development of underutilized properties will benefit the West Brighton community through job creation, increased property values and a healthier environment in which to live and work.

A steering committee of community stakeholders will be formed under the leadership of West Brighton Community LDC. Executive Director, Angela D’Aiuto, reflects on her involvement as an activist , serving as a member of the BOA Phase 1 Steering committee in 2003-2004. Angela knows firsthand how important it is for community and business to come together to advocate for infrastructure and quality of life improvements.

As a founding member of the North Shore Waterfront Conservancy and BlueStreet Initiative, many suggestions connecting the community to the waterfront are more attainable today and complement the Plan NYC 2030 waterfront plan. Priorities include :reconnecting the North Shore Waterfront to its upland communities, creating jobs and promoting responsible and viable businesses.
